The big news this week is Alice in Wonderland starting Friday, March 5. The movie is really a sequel, not a remake of the original. Alice comes back eight years later in a retelling of the poem Jabberwocky and the movie is brilliant. It's in 2-D at our humble little cinema, but the truth is 2-D is way better. Or at the very least just as good. The 3-D effects in this movie are just not that many or spectacular. See it here and save money.
We're also bringing in the Martin Scorcese-Leonardo di Caprio thriller from the Mystic River novelist Dennis Lehane, Shutter Island, or should we say, Shudder Island. Creepy, chilling, atmospheric and good, with a terrific convoluted ending you could never imagine. Great scenery of the New England coast in winter and frightening landscapes of the human psyche.
And Crazy Heart, easily one of the top five movies of the year, starring Jeff Bridges, the year’s top actor, continues for another week. Percy Jackson, and Dear John file out on Thursday, March 4.
Sunday night, March 7 is Oscar Night. We'll have the glittering event up on our bigger than life lobby screen if any of you want to drop by, brave the paparazzi and walk our red carpet. Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansen promised they would be there. The event is free and starts at five. Limited valet parking for your limousine.
We'll show movies for spare change. Your-very-own-always-on-the-edge-of-disaster neighborhood movie theater has been having it rough of late, trying to stay alive and knock down that pesky debt which keeps hanging around like a 20-megaton mosquito ready to smite us. We're like Channel 9, always asking for money. So. In case you just can't figure out what to do with your spare change or your Lotto winnings and want to help the cinema. We'll soon have a HELP THE CINEMA button on our website. Be sure to look.
And that's it. See you at the movies—at least one a month.
No new news to report this week. So see you at the movies.
