The big studios don't just make movies these days. They make blockbusters designed to hoover up as much money as possible. That's why everything is opening Wednesday this week. We've got Johnny Depp as Dillinger in Public Enemies, a movie Rolling Stone called one of the best of the year, and a lot of cute little animated critters in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, plus another week of toy-turned-movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Some days wouldn't you just rather be a truck?
Just two weeks to the Wednesday opening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Will there be life after this last movie? Maybe Twilight 2 in the fall? Stay tuned.
We announced Columbia City's 2009 Seattle Book Fest last week and we're announcing it again. It will be October 24-25 at Columbia School, charmingly renamed Columbia City Event Center. Over 50 authors will be speaking and reading and over 80 exhibitors will be backing them up with book sales. There will also be over 50 volunteers for this literary event of the year and YOU can be one of them. Pass a brief test (hint: can you breathe?) and we will take you on. Contact us!
Audience Survey: Is it a hit or a miss? As part of the ramp up to the Book Fest we are planning a series of three author readings in the upstairs lobby featuring local writers Nancy Rawles, Garth Stein, Michael Gruber, all best-selling A or mid-list writers. We might even coax a certain local Z-list writer who owns a charming movie theater and wrote the classic Nioka, Bride of Bigfoot, one of the funniest novels never read, to perform. What do you think? Entry is by modest donation to help fund the Book Fest. Let us know.
And that's about it. See you at the movies!
